Today’s feature takes us to the small town of Clyde, Ohio where the homeowner dreamed of converting their house into a modern farmhouse design— with the help of Herman’s Furniture and Design’s professional interior design team.
With a population of just over 6,000 people, this town served as the setting and inspiration for Sherwood Anderson’s 1919 collection of short stories, “Winesburg, Ohio.”
Now, the home we’re visiting today can be described in one word: charming. But it took attention to detail from the designer at Herman’s Furniture to pull this modern farmhouse design all together. The goal: create a beautiful farmhouse-style home and let the collections of the homeowner tell a story. The inspiration: shiplap, warm neutrals, and Magnolia Farmhouse.
The designer also created mood boards with the homeowner to make each room more personalized. You don’t have to live way out in the country to enjoy modern farmhouse design decor. Let’s take you inside to show you how the designer worked with this homeowner to make her new build feel like an older home with character.
How do you create that vintage look? Add architectural details. The homeowner wanted shiplap throughout the home to create that traditional farmhouse look, but shiplap can get expensive. The designer and homeowner collaborated to strategically place shiplap above the fireplace and in the kitchen. Beams were added to the ceiling with beadboard.
When the homeowner was visiting Herman’s Furniture, she saw the fretwork you see in the video and loved it so much that it not only became the inspiration for her kitchen, it actually frames her kitchen.
When you have a collection of special pieces, why not show them off? The designer suggested floor-to-ceiling custom cabinets to display meaningful keepsakes. This is a clean way to display your prettiest and most personal accessories. In this space, it becomes the artwork for this charming breakfast nook.
It’s common to overthink paint color in a room. In fact, we often grind on picking the perfect color. In this home, the designer suggested all white, the specific color: Sherwin-Williams Alabaster. By using all white walls throughout the home, the designer created the perfect backdrop for the homeowner’s collection of furniture, accessories, and unique pieces.
The collaboration on this project proves that you don’t need to have a backyard barn or chicken coop to create a modern farmhouse design with Pinterest-worthy looks.
