What happens when a homeowner tells his designer at Herman’s Furniture, “You have a blank slate”? We’ll show you in this episode of House Stories.
When it comes to interior design, some people know exactly what they want, and others know what they like when they see it, but they don’t know how to pull it all together. That was the case for this homeowner when he met with his designer at Herman’s Furniture to fill his summer home in Port Clinton with new furniture and accessories.
It’s customary for the designers at Herman’s to curate a vision for their clients and to understand how they want to feel while living in their home. This homeowner wanted a comfortable and restful space that still looked sophisticated because he likes to entertain family and friends.
The design process begins by showing the homeowner options. The homeowner decided on shades of blues and grays, light textures, rattan for a beach-like feel, and fabrics that mirror a walk along the water. Our designer also incorporated bold patterns to reflect the lively energy within this space.
The fireplace in this home makes a statement; your eyes gravitate to it as soon as you walk into the great room. These large windowpane wall mirrors, along with floating wooden shelves, were chosen to bookend the fireplace and highlight the stone structure. The mirrors become pieces of artwork in the room and complement the grand rustic fireplace.
While this homeowner likes to entertain, he wanted his vacation home to have an easy, relaxed feeling. Rather than having a traditional dining room, he loved the designer’s idea of creating this sitting room to settle in and socialize with friends. This space is modern with a lake house feel. A coastal sand dollar fabric was chosen for the four swivel chairs, which are anchored by this blue diamond woven rug. A round woven coffee table in the center is perfect for setting drinks and appetizers. These custom window treatments include lightweight panels and woven shades, giving the homeowner and his guests the perfect mix of privacy and natural light from the outdoors.
This home doesn’t sit directly on the water, but it’s not far from Lake Erie, and our beautiful Great Lake is reflected in the interior design. Throughout this home, every piece of furniture, the accessories, and the window treatments came from Herman’s Furniture. Here’s a tour of the rest of this architecturally beautiful home.
Before we go, there’s one room that the homeowner designed himself for his grandson. It has its own theme, and we think it’s worth showing off.
