Herman’s is fortunate to employ many talented designers who are ready and willing to offer assistance to Herman’s customers at both their Sandusky and Avon Lake stores. Our in-home design services, offered free of charge, have been a cornerstone of Herman’s Furniture since the early 1950s. Each of our designers has something different to offer customers, so we want you to get to know each of them. Today, we are feature Sarah King.
Sarah was born and raised in Norwalk, Ohio. After obtaining her interior design degree from Ohio University, Sarah settled back in Huron County. She, her husband, and two young children currently live in Norwalk. Sarah has worked in the interior design field for 14 years; over nine of those years have been spent at Herman’s. Sarah states “I love my job! I’ve always wanted to re-arrange and design things and spaces since I was young!”
Every designer brings something different to the table. Sarah describes her style as eclectic. “Personally, I like earthy tones and lots of trim details with the ‘cottagy’ flair.” declared Sarah. Yet, as any good designer is required to do so, Sarah can appreciate and create any and all styles. “I feel a designer should be able to listen and help develop a unique style that is reflective of their client, therefore making each client’s style their very own.”
Sarah has completed many design projects over her 14 years of working in this business, but she declares that her favorite project involved a basement remodel. “The project was a complete transformation. We converted this dark, dull space into a functionally and stunning gathering place for family and friends! The space has a ‘Ralph Laurenish’ rustic feel about it. It’s a beautiful harmony of elements from the embossed leather wallpaper to the custom painted horse sketch on the rough hewn plank paneling. The lines of the furniture really shine in this tailor-made space drawn specifically from the customer’s inspirational images in her wish book.”
Many people enter into a remodel project without consulting a designer and often have regrets. Sarah stresses that “a designer is helpful in guiding you through all the endless, overwhelming options and avenues that are out there.” Further, “a designer will listen to you and help sculpt and create a space that is all your own, doing this all while keeping in mind your style, color scheme, personality and budget.”
