Herman’s Furniture has always been committed to excellence in customer service. Since each customer is style and taste is different, Herman’s strives to bring together a broad mix of employees to serve their customers’ needs. Newly added to the mix is Gregg Mello.
Gregg was born and raised in the coastal town of Dartmouth, Massachusetts. It was here that Gregg embraced his passion for reading, writing, and drawing. Gregg’s talent was evident, and he received many awards for his involvements in the arts. Seeking to further his education, Gregg completed a B.A. in illustration at the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth.
Gregg’s professional career began with Jo-Ann Fabrics where he worked as an assistant manager. Next, he worked as a team leader in the Research Department of Robert Allen Design, a Boston-based company offering premium fabrics, luxurious furnishings, and design services. Gregg’s current position at Herman’s is as a design consultant. He explained that “although my background primarily comes from retail management, it’s a new animal when it comes to furniture sales.” Yet, Gregg is confident in his abilities and his contributions to Herman’s. “My background in the arts, especially the elements and principles of design, gives me a leg up, but I feel that the fabric knowledge that I gained working at Jo-Ann and Robert Allen is a great asset for the team.”
The East Coast is very different from Ohio in many aspects; yet, Gregg sees his background as an advantage. “I would like to think that I bring a new energy to the table within the store. I come from a part of the country where it all began….We have Boston and Providence, Rhode Island, where the architecture is outstanding. With all that history and “old world” influence, the contrast of old and new, modern day technology is such an interesting combination. That’s how I describe my style: traditional, but with a bit of freshness to bring it to life.”
Gregg is currently helping customers at Herman’s new store only, but he will be taking on more in-home design projects in the future. “I love pattern, texture and color, but they can be a daunting task to surmount in interior design… and to help people in finding what works for them in a space that they are in on a daily basis is such a good feeling.”
